Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Samsung Galaxy S21 Comparison

Samsung S20 vs S21

Are you struggling to choose between these two flagship models from the South Korean megabrand Samsung? You might think to yourself that there are actually very few differences. The same screen size, the same storage capacity and RAM, the same resistance to water and dust... It's probably difficult to choose between the two... Yet the manufacturer has given its models slightly different features and components. This guide should help you decide.

Samsung S20, the compact, high-performance smartphone

The first notable difference between these two phones is their size. Although both their screens are 6.2 inches, the S20 is a slightly smaller model (69.1 x 151.7 x 7.9 mm compared to 71.2 x 151.7 x 7.9 mm) and therefore slightly lighter (9 grams less). One of the reasons for this is the S20's slightly curved (but also more fragile) screen, which is not the case on the Samsung S21.

These two smartphones are also compatible with 5G technology, provided that the Samsung S20 is the 5G version. Another important difference is that you can increase the S20s storage capacity with a micro SD card. This functionality is not available in the Samsung S21.

Samsung S21, increased performance

What makes the Samsung S21 stand out is its upgraded components. The camera module is newly located in the very upper left corner, unlike the S20 which places it a few centimetres from the edge. This allows the manufacturer to reduce the size of the LED flash unit. In terms of performance, the S21 makes gains in efficiency thanks to its improved chip as well.

The Samsung S21 has a large battery which translates to better battery life. When it comes to photography, these two smartphones are equivalent, both equipped with a triple 12MP, 64MP and a 12MP Ultra Wide Angle sensor.

If you want a large screen but a compact model, the Samsung S20 is for you. The S20 can also be expanded with a micro SD card. The S21 is more powerful and responsive. It is suitable for demanding users who are fond of the latest applications and games. But watch out for future updates. The S21 comes with One UI 3.1 compared to One UI 2.5 for the S20. The latter is capable of updates but will probably not be supported as long.
