iPhone 7 vs 8: is there a big difference between these two?
Before I give you our iPhone 7 vs iPhone 8 verdict, let me make one thing clear: the iPhone 8 received the wrong name. If it fell in line with Apple’s previous naming schemes, it would’ve been called the iPhone 7S (which it should be called, since there is very little to differentiate these phones except for slightly improved processor and camera performance, but perhaps this is just a small pet-peeve of mine). In terms of size, dimensions, and overall look and feel, these two devices are virtually the same. The iPhone 8 is technically 7% heavier, and this is because the back is full glass instead of aluminum. Yes, this makes the phone more prone to breaking during drops, but it also enabled Apple to give the iPhone 8 wireless charging. If you’ve never tried wireless charging before, you may be wondering if it’s such a big deal—not in our opinion, I almost always prefer using a physical cable because of faster charging, but I guess this is really a matter of preference. But there are other reasons to buy the refurbished iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7. For one, the iPhone 8 has the newer A11 Bionic chip—yes, that’s the same chip you’ll find in iPhone X. Apple claims that this chip makes the iPhone 8 about 25% faster than the iPhone 7, and even though it may be hard to notice the difference in speed first-hand, the improved processor may assist the iPhone 8 in receiving software updates for longer than the iPhone 7. So despite the iPhone 8 having slightly less durability because of the addition of the glass back, we’d still recommend buying it over the iPhone 7.
